Womens Football - Grand Final Preview

SENIOR WOMEN

What a great way for our female football program to finish the season, with both sides playing in the Grand Final. Congratulations to all the girls across both teams, your efforts this season have truly been amazing and you all deserve the opportunity to play in the big day. I would also like to make special mention to the girls who may not be playing this weekend but have been involved throughout the season. Both sides would not be in the position we are in today without every player on our list, I would personally like to thank every player at the club for getting behind what we set out to achieve this season and that was to create a united club.

Playing Claremont is going to be a big challenge this weekend, the last two encounters with them have been extremely close and I imagine this weekend will be very similar. The weather looks to be very good this weekend which will be perfect conditions for our tall marking players. Hopefully we can stretch Claremont for height when we kick long and direct this week. Deni Broadhurst who has played an amazing role in the ruck this season will hopefully give us a good focal point while also putting pressure on Claremont.

Lauren Vecchio. our captain won the reserves grade medal on Monday night which is a great achievement from her and she will definitley be one to watch through the midfield this week, hopefully she can continue her great form and leadership again this week through the centre of ground.

The club will be opening up after the game on the weekend for all players, family and supporters. It would be great to see as many of you back there after the game as possible to close out what has been a remarkable season for the club.

YOUTH GIRLS

On Saturday our Youth Girls play in their second Grand Final in three years and are looking to avenge the disappointment of 2017.

Whilst the team has only eight players still playing Youths from the 2017 team, the girls are focussed on finishing their Youths career on a high and achieving a premiership.

The team has had a great year finishing three games clear on top of the ladder and then winning the second semi-final to go straight through to the Grand Final.

The Grand Final will be a hard, physical game and we know that's how Peel like to play, but we are confident that if we play our style of running and carrying the ball we will go a long way towards winning.

Our three encounters with Peel this year have been very close with the biggest margin being in the second semi-final, where we won by 17 points after kicking the last two goals of the match.

Most of our players have had very consistent years and played good football in all games. Whilst we have had no standout player the players who we believe will have a big impact on us winning are Taylah and Hannah up forward. Our midfield led by our captain Cali and Ella in the ruck have been outstanding all season and at some point of the game will gain control over Peel's very strong midfield.

Down back we have been very solid all year, conceding the least amount of points against for the competition, but know that the Peel forward line is one of the most difficult to contain in the competition.

Chloe has had a solid season after being moved to full back and has a enormous task against the competitions leading goal kicker Shanni. With team defence and help we believe we can nullify Shanni's influence on the game.

Ash R and Ash H have had very good seasons also and we will look for their strength and rebound to set up goal scoring for our forwards.

In reflection our girls have shown massive improvement this season and will go into the Grand Final confident and knowing they will give it 110 per cent no matter the result.

I personally as head coach and all the assistants want to wish everyone good luck, enjoy the day and we are extremely proud of all the girls in season 2019.

Good luck to Jason and the Senior girls, you have had a amazing season and what an amazing day it will be if we win both flags!
