Colts Report - Round 7
ALTHOUGH disappointed in going down to the arch enemy East Fremantle on Friday evening, the Colts team showed good signs in their endeavour and learning to play with greater intensity.
It is pleasing to see some of the younger members of the team looking to express their opinion on what the team needs to do to succeed. I am encouraged by the efforts of most players and the fact that they showed honest pain on what is a bitter loss to the traditional foe.
The SFFC Colts program has become a benchmark and other sides continually look to raise their efforts when confronted by the red and whites. With our new young group still coming to grips with the new game style and WAFL intensity, I am confident that we are on the correct path in developing footballers of the future, that will be of the correct breed, that will propel our club back to its best very soon.
Friday evening's game showed many good traits with goal accuracy not being one of them. By missing our shots on goal early we failed to apply scoreboard pressure on the opposition and in turn placed ourselves in a tough situation. With our early dominance came good players that were consistent all evening as the game progressed.
Our captain Ben Sokol lead the way with numerous possessions and bringing teammates into the contest. Blaine Johnson and Cameron McCarthy were always a threat up forward and gave good presentation up forward. The reliable Bradd McPhail lead the backline, he along with debutant Jack McMasters and Mathew Gundry repelled the opposition forward runs and turned defence into attack.
We look forward to seeing a more confident and eager side this week as we take on East Perth at Medibank. Congratulations to Jack Mac and Anthony Nodari on their first games with the Colts team.
