Coach Post Match – Todd Curley Second Semi-Final

Wednesday, September 14, 2016 - 9:52 AM - by Chris Pike

WHAT South Fremantle coach Todd Curley had to say following the WAFL second semi-final loss to Subiaco and now looking to this Sunday's preliminary final against Peel Thunder at Fremantle Community Bank Oval.

QUESTION: It seems to be a similar story every time you play Subiaco. You stick with them for most of the game but they blow you away in a 20-minute burst and that happened again either side of three quarter-time?
ANSWER: We dominated the first 10 minutes of the third quarter but kicked 1.2 and three out on the full. If you don’t take your chances against good teams, eventually the momentum will turn and they will have their turn. They certainly took their chances and it was disappointing we didn’t take ours.

Player Column – Haiden Schloithe Second Semi-Final

Saturday, September 10, 2016 - 11:22 AM - by Haiden Schloithe

FOR me personally it was pretty exciting to play in my first final last Saturday. Obviously the last four or five years haven’t been as successful as we wanted to but to get to 15 wins this year and for me to finally play my first final along with 15 others was pretty exciting.

To then come out and perform the way we did as a team was really pleasing but we know that this Sunday there's no tougher ask in the WAFL than playing the two-time reigning champs at Leederville. Hopefully the boys prepare well and we get ourselves up on Sunday.

The pace of the game certainly picked up a bit in that first final and the pressure was up. Those little mistakes can hurt you even more in finals footy but I thought to all the boys' credit we handled the pressure and expectation really well. We wanted a good start and that 10 minutes was pretty impressive and we built on that for a really good win.

Verrier played in the Bulldogs' colts premiership of 2011 alongside Haiden Schloithe, Jason Maskos, Jacob Martinez, Mason Shaw and his brother Brendan. All played key roles in Saturday's qualifying final victory over West Perth at Fremantle Community Bank Oval.

It was the first league final for South Fremantle since the losing 2011 first semi-final to Subiaco and the 52-point win was the Bulldogs' first finals triumph since the 2009 grand final.

WHAT South Fremantle coach Todd Curley said after the Bulldogs' 52-point qualifying final win over West Perth and looking ahead to this Sunday's second semi-final against Subiaco at Medibank Stadium.

QUESTION: That win must give you a lot of confidence to take into the second semi-final against Subiaco?
ANSWER: The boys were really good and it was pleasing because you do so much work. They've worked from November all the way through and qualified really strongly, and performed really strongly in what was the first final for a lot of them. To come out and start the way they did, and pressure the opposition the way they did was very pleasing.
