Round 4 Preview | v East Fremantle

Saturday, April 27, 2019 - 6:58 AM - by Chris Pike

SOUTH Fremantle is back home at Fremantle Community Bank Oval on Saturday to host the first derby of 2019, the now annual ANZAC Round clash with East Fremantle, as the Bulldogs look to consolidate a strong start to the season.

The ANZAC Derby has now become an annual fixture between the Bulldogs and Sharks. That will now continue despite there only being two derbies per season and will keep running alongside the WA Day Foundation Derby.

South Fremantle comes into the clash on Saturday afternoon in commemoration of ANZAC Day having won two of its three games this season as well while East Fremantle has lost its opening three matches under new coach Bill Monaghan.

The Inside Word | Kade Stewart Player Column Round 4

Friday, April 26, 2019 - 5:22 PM - by Kade Stewart

WHEN I was asked to write a column this week I thought a good place to start would be with why I've decided to come back to South Fremantle this year and how much I'm enjoying being back after three years away.

Firstly, my decision to come back to Souths was to get back into real competitive footy again and also grow my footy again after the delisting of Hawthorn. Souths was going to be the club where I was going to get my footy back to its best again.

The group has been really good, except Haiden Schloithe and his shit jokes.

Coach Post Match – Todd Curley Round 3

Thursday, April 25, 2019 - 1:55 PM - by Chris Pike

SOUTH Fremantle coach Todd Curley speaking following the Easter Sunday WAFL victory over West Perth and looking ahead to this Saturday's ANZAC Derby against East Fremantle also at Fremantle Community Bank Oval.

QUESTION: A little bit of a slow start and you didn’t kick straight in the last quarter, but I'd think you would be pretty happy aside from that?
ANSWER:
I think we continued the vein of improved. In Round 1, we were pretty average, in Round 2 we were a bit better for a half and I thought we were pretty good for the most part this week. We were a bit fumbly early and then didn’t convert after dominating the early part of the last quarter. Then we were a couple of man down and got a bit tired to keep inviting them to stay in the game. But we'll certainly take it. We thought we got better so that's something to hang our hat on.

Q: The style of footy was closer to how you want to play too, especially through the second and third quarters?
A:
There's no doubt there is going to be ups and downs, and challenges, just because there's so much new personnel. A lot of guys haven’t played much league footy and there's a few who have played a bit but not with us. That connection and synergy of playing together with the same group of guys is going to build so we think the longer the season goes that will improve. But we want to get better quickly. We're all impatient but we want to tick off some wins along the way as we continue to improve. We've got some young guys which is exciting.

Bulldogs too good for Falcons on Easter Sunday

Tuesday, April 23, 2019 - 1:04 PM - by Chris Pike

SOUTH Fremantle dominated the second and third quarters on Easter Sunday to set up a comfortable 16-point win over West Perth at Fremantle Community Bank Oval to make it two wins from three to open 2019.

There has been plenty of change at South Fremantle from last year's preliminary final loss to West Perth and Sunday's clash, but the Bulldogs were impressive to make it 10 wins in the last 11 starts against the Falcons.

Despite the turnover in senior players over summer, it's now been a good start to the season for South Fremantle with two wins from the three games and the one loss to Perth could very well have gone the other way.

Round 3 Preview | v West Perth

SOUTH Fremantle is back on home turf this Easter Sunday with the Bulldogs looking to get their second win from three attempts to open the WAFL season up against West Perth.

Coming off a heartbreaking three-point loss to Perth also at Fremantle Community Bank Oval, South Fremantle is back at home and in celebration of Easter Sunday will be looking to make it a memorable day against the Falcons.

West Perth comes into the game without a win so far in 2019 but after what happened in the preliminary final last year nobody at the Bulldogs will be taking them lightly.

The league clash bounces down at 2.10pm on Sunday afternoon and will be broadcast live on Channel 7 from 2pm. The colts clash is on before the league game from 11.30am while the reserves clash is on afterwards from 5pm.

Bulldogs can't quite topple Demons at home

Wednesday, April 17, 2019 - 11:35 AM - by Chris Pike

SOUTH Fremantle started on fire and then opened the last quarter in scintillating fashion, but in between Perth was able to do enough to set up their eventual three-point victory over the Bulldogs.

Coming off the Round 1 victory against Swan Districts at Steel Blue Oval, South Fremantle started Saturday's game at Fremantle Community Bank Oval on fire kicking four goals in the first 19 minutes.

But Perth was able to respond and went to three quarter-time leading by 23 points. The Bulldogs, though, came out barking to start the fourth term with four quick goals to regain the lead.

Round 2 Preview | v Perth

Saturday, April 13, 2019 - 9:29 AM - by Chris Pike

IT might be a significantly different looking South Fremantle team, but after a Round 1 victory the Bulldogs can make it a perfect start to the 2019 WAFL season hosting Perth at Fremantle Community Bank Oval on Saturday.

There have been significant changes to the South Fremantle team from last year's preliminary final loss to West Perth to last Saturday's Round 1 win of the 2019 season against Swan Districts at Steel Blue Oval.

However, it was a winning start to the season still for the Bulldogs and now is the chance to make it a 2-0 start to the new campaign hosting Perth at the port this Saturday.

Coach Post Match – Todd Curley Round 1

Friday, April 12, 2019 - 2:47 PM - by Chris Pike

WHAT South Fremantle coach Todd Curley had to say following the Round 1 WAFL victory over Swan Districts at Steel Blue Oval to open the 2019 season.

QUESTION: Round 1 is not often pretty but you would be happy enough to come away with the four points?
ANSWER:
You're always happy when you get four points. It wasn’t our best day and clearly it was a pretty scrappy game, and it wouldn’t have been a great game to watch. I thought our effort was pretty good and I thought we showed a bit of character in the second half when clearly things weren’t going how we wanted them to. We hung in there and worked pretty hard, and got away with a win.

Q: Your expectations of what you're happy with in Round 1 would be different to later in the season, but were you happy enough with what you saw?
A:
You want to see some stuff that you've practiced and a few of those things we got bits of them right, but we probably never got all of it right all at once. There's lots to take out of it though. Caleb Datson in his first game was a real shining light. Even if the first half he was the one who looked composed and used the ball well. We had a lot of young players and would have had half a dozen who have played less than five games. They would have learned a lot and will get better.
