Suban settling into WAFL life with the Bulldogs

Saturday, April 28, 2018 - 1:49 PM - by Chris Pike

NICK Suban's time in the AFL might have come to an end earlier than he hoped at the end of 2017, but he was only too happy to join South Fremantle to begin the next phase of life and that already has seen named in the Western Australian State squad for next month's clash with South Australia.

For his entire adult life, Suban has known nothing aside from being an AFL football being drafted to the Fremantle Dockers in 2008 from North Ballarat.

In that time, he became a life member at Fremantle by playing 156 games including being part of the 2013 Grand Final team and for most of his time at the Dockers he had been a mainstay of the team.

Bulldogs continue domination of Sharks in ANZAC Derby

Tuesday, April 24, 2018 - 1:40 PM - by Chris Pike
SOUTH Fremantle put together its best performance of the 2018 WAFL season to continue its recent domination of East Fremantle to win Sunday's ANZAC Derby by 94 points at East Fremantle Oval.

South Fremantle came into the derby having lost to Subiaco by 58 points in its opening game after the Round 1 bye and then having to fight hard to overcome West Perth at HBF Arena, while East Fremantle had beaten Perth narrowly but lost to Peel Thunder and Claremont either side of that.

So the form lines were similar entering the 10th consecutive ANZAC Derby but it was South Fremantle who made the early statement at East Fremantle Oval and didn’t let up the rest of the afternoon. Read More [+]

Coach Post Match – Todd Curley Round 4

Tuesday, April 24, 2018 - 1:20 PM - by Chris Pike

WHAT South Fremantle coach Todd Curley had to say following Sunday's 94-point ANZAC Derby victory against East Fremantle at East Fremantle Oval.

QUESTION: You must enjoying coming here to play at East Fremantle Oval?
ANSWER: Yeah I think the most pleasing thing was that I think we were pretty solid for four quarters. It was our most consistent performance for a while and it was in tricky conditions. Obviously we would have liked to kick a bit straighter but I thought we were pretty good.

Q: You started well and didn’t let up all day, it was about as emphatic a performance as you could get?
A: There was a lot to be pleased about. The three young guys that came in did well and had an impact on the game. But I thought we had a much greater spread of contributors than we've had in the first two rounds. We were disappointed after Round 2 against Subi where we were pretty good for two and-a-half quarters and then really fell away. Last week we were OK and West Perth played pretty well to put us under pressure. We knew if East Fremantle had a look they could certainly cut us up and they can move the ball quick, but we were able to hold them up.

South Fremantle, Freo Derbies cherished Sumich memories

Sunday, April 22, 2018 - 2:28 PM - by Chris Pike

HE might have made his mark kicking 514 goals as a dual AFL premiership player with the West Coast Eagles, but Peter Sumich grew up dreaming of playing in a Fremantle Derby for South Fremantle and not only did he achieve that but was part of the 1997 Bulldogs' premiership winning side.

As East Fremantle prepares to host South Fremantle in the now annual Anzac Fremantle Derby this Sunday at East Fremantle Oval, Sumich took time out to reflect on what the Fremantle Derbies mean to him and how proud he is still to see them play such a big part in the WA football landscape.

Sumich grew up supporting South Fremantle and attending derbies dreaming one day of pulling on the Red V jumper and running out for his beloved Bulldogs up against the hated East Fremantle.
