Bulldogs announce string of re-signings for 2018

Tuesday, November 7, 2017 - 4:00 PM - by Chris Pike

THE commitment and desire of the South Fremantle playing group to build and improve on two successive WAFL preliminary final appearances has been shown with six players re-signing including two past WJ Hughes Medal winners.

A big key to South Fremantle's success the past two seasons in winning 31 of 40 home and away season games and then making the preliminary final on both occasions has been the stability of the playing squad.

There was minimal turnover between the 2016 and 2017 seasons aside from the returns of Cory Dell'Olio and Jarrod Garlett, and emerging ruckman Jake Solomon who had an injury-interrupted campaign.

HAIDEN Schloithe's remarkable 2017 WAFL season with South Fremantle has been capped off with the 24-year-old announced as the Bulldogs' fairest and best winner taking out the WJ Hughes Medal just ahead of Tim Kelly.

It was shades of this year's Sandover Medal count when Schloithe and Kelly finished first and second, and it was again the case in the running for the WJ Hughes Medal as the fairest and best winner at South Fremantle for 2017.

Schloithe and Kelly had remarkable individual seasons with both showing that they had the rare blend of being able to win the contested ball, run and carry the ball and deliver it with good skill, and then go forward to kick goals.

Bulldogs coaching great receives national honour

Saturday, September 30, 2017 - 11:15 AM - by Chris Pike

NO recognition is too much for West Australian football legend John Dimmer and the dual premiership-winning South Fremantle coach this week was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award by the AFL Coaches Association.

By the time Dimmer arrived as senior coach at South Fremantle in 2004, he had already put together one of the more remarkable careers in WA football both as a player at Subiaco and East Perth, and a coach in the WAFL with West Perth and even at West Coast Amateur Football Club along with time in the AFL with the Fremantle Dockers.

But his time with the Bulldogs will go down in history as one of the most successful in history of the proud football club.

Family comes first for Sandover Medallist Schloithe

Friday, September 22, 2017 - 12:27 AM - by Chris Pike

WHILE winning the Sandover Medal is a sense of pride for Haiden Schloithe and he would dearly love another chance in the AFL, it's only his desire for a WAFL premiership with South Fremantle that comes close to matching how thankful he is to the support of his parents and family.

Schloithe originally joined South Fremantle from Katanning to play in a colts premiership before then being added to Fremantle's rookie-list for the 2012 and 2013 AFL seasons.

He couldn’t quite make it for an AFL debut but when he returned to South Fremantle full-time in 2014, he was at the age and of the mindset where he was ready to really make his mark as an outstanding WAFL footballer.

Schloithe wins Bulldogs' first Sandover Medal since 2005

Monday, September 18, 2017 - 10:09 PM - by Chris Pike

SOUTH Fremantle has its first Sandover Medal winner since 2005 with Haiden Schloithe taking out the award as fairest and best player in the WAFL for 2017 ahead of teammate Tim Kelly.

It was a fitting end to the vote count for 2017 that Schloithe's nearest rival was his teammate Tim Kelly after the pair had standout seasons with the Bulldogs helping lead them all the way to Sunday's preliminary final before losing to Subiaco.

Little could separate Schloithe and Kelly throughout the WAFL season with South Fremantle both proving tremendous inside midfielders and clearances winners, while able to break away and run and carry the ball, and go forward to kick goals.
