Coach Post Match – Todd Curley Round 5

Thursday, April 20, 2017 - 12:20 AM - by Chris Pike

WHAT South Fremantle coach Todd Curley had to say following a 65-point win over Claremont on Good Friday that took the Bulldogs to top spot on the WAFL ladder.

QUESTION: You must have been happy with another strong performance?
ANSWER: I thought we were really good, especially early when the game was up for grabs in the first quarter. Then it got a bit slippery for everyone and it was a bit untidy and the second quarter wasn’t that good. But our response and intensity in the second was pretty good even though obviously they were down a few soldiers right at the end. But we'll take the four points no doubt.

Scintillating Bulldogs thrash Falcons by 103 points

Tuesday, April 11, 2017 - 1:48 AM - by Chris Pike

SOUTH Fremantle turned on a brilliant and dominant display on Saturday to beat West Perth by 103 points at Fremantle Community Bank Oval.

While South Fremantle recorded three strong wins over West Perth in 2016, both teams did take part in finals action last season and there was nothing to suggest what was to come on Saturday.

South Fremantle was coming off an impressive 43-point win over Peel while West Perth had lost narrowly to Subiaco last week, but what took place on Saturday put on full show just how potent the Bulldogs arsenal is when at full power.

It was a relatively even first quarter with South Fremantle kicking first two and last two goals. But they kicked away from there with seven goals to two in the second term, four to nil in the third and eight to two in the last to win 23.8 (146) to 6.7 (43).

Hard running, courageous Bewick reaches 100 WAFL games

Saturday, April 8, 2017 - 1:40 PM - by Chris Pike

THERE might have been times when it didn’t look like South Fremantle wingman Shaun Bewick would reach 100 WAFL games, but perseverance and hard work has paid off as he reaches the mark this Saturday against West Perth.

It's only fitting that Bewick reaches the milestone against the club that he began his career with alongside twin brother Rohan and where his family has such a strong history including his father Cory and uncle Darren.

Bewick never thought of anything else aside from playing with West Perth and made his league debut in 2009 but after just 30 games to his credit up until the end of 2011 he felt a fresh change was needed.

Player Column – Tim Kelly Round 4

Friday, April 7, 2017 - 8:09 AM - by Tim Kelly

WE were very disappointed with our efforts against Swan Districts so to bounce back the way we did on Saturday was great. Hopefully we can keep that going now.

We play West Perth this week and it's always a great game against them. You know they will always be competitive so I'm looking forward to that challenge. They have some great ball winners in their midfield and we've got great ball winners for us as well. Most weeks now you get great midfield battles so this Saturday will be another one.

It was definitely good to have Hocks back on Saturday for his first game of this year. Obviously he came across last year and just made himself right at home here and led us from the front. It was great having him back on the weekend.

WHAT South Fremantle coach Todd Curley had to say following the Round 3 WAFL victory over Peel Thunder in Mandurah and looking ahead to this Saturday's clash at home with West Perth.

Curley offers some insight into how the Bulldogs bounced back from a disappointing loss to Swan Districts to beat Peel by 43 points and what most impressed him along with looking ahead to this Saturday's clash with the Falcons at Fremantle Community Bank Oval.

QUESTION: You must have been happy with the way they bounced back from last week's loss to Swan Districts?
ANSWER:
They've been a pretty consistent group the last 12 months or so and they were really disappointed last week with aspects of the game and I thought the response was pretty strong.
